Born in Birmingham, England, Mark Collett now lives and works in the heart of France, in Saint Bonnet Briance, where he uses the traditional technique of steam bending wood. His passion for pushing the boundaries of this craft allows him to create elegant and stunning pieces. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, nature's pure lines, and the curves of everyday objects, Mark is always on the lookout for new ideas, aiming to craft breathtaking structures.
Mark's work focuses on designing simple forms to create light sculptures and other high-quality decorative objects. Due to the intricate nature of his designs, each piece is meticulously handcrafted, making most of his works unique and custom-made to client specifications. He believes in the power of simplicity, stating, "It takes a lot of restraint to keep things simple and not overwork an element. I've always found that the strongest shapes were the purest."
After training at The Charlie Whinney Studio in Carcassonne, Mark continued to hone his skills independently. His talent was recognized in 2021 when he was selected to represent France in the 'French Collective' during London Craft Week. In 2022, he won 1st prize for creation in the Ateliers d'Art de France Nouvelle Aquitaine competition. Mark's work has also been featured in luxury hotels, notably with the Six Senses project in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.
Mark's creations will be showcased at the Révélations exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris in 2025. Currently, he collaborates with interior architects, gallery owners, and private clients in France and internationally.
From the outset, Mark has adhered to a strong ethos, focusing on the use of locally sourced materials, producing high-quality finished products.
